Animal World

Last winter we went on a trip to the National park. It’s really amazing to see the animals in their own surroundings, environment they’re comfortable in. I guess it’s true for most of us also, we wouldn’t want to leave our comfort zone. The moment we are picked up and put in a totally different environment, something changes within us, it might be temporary, or permanent, depending upon our mental make up.

I noticed how a small fly would irritate a big animal like an elephant or a rhino, birds would sit on these animals to rest their wings. Big ones cool themselves in muddy waters and then enjoy the sun while grazing , their tails moving all the while. Small animals like deer, black buck, or a blue bull would look at you with such innocent eyes, mute, a question in their glance ,it would melt your heart!!

I feel more at ease with grass grazing animals! Big cats look beautiful only on on the screen, scary if seen next to the safari vehicle.

I am often reminded of a story heard in my childhood. A baby elephant was most of the times tied to a chain. The owner would take him for a walk or bath or whatever, during the day but at night it would be tied to the chain. And even as a grown up, huge elephant, it would sit tied to the chain, comfortable and at peace with himself. Now I understand few phrases more clearly, like not knowing one’s potential, not moving out of the comfort zone, believing what has been drilled into the mind since childhood.
