Happiness Quotient

Happiness, the word itself gives a nice good feeling, so to be in state of happiness must be bliss..

The word , happiness, has a different meaning to different people. I am sure that, for a hungry person a freshly made home cooked food is nothing short of seeing the god himself…for a child separated from mother, even for a short while seems like ages, is so glad to see her again !!!

A baby smiling, gurgling and trying to speak, a flower moving with the wind, clouds in a hurry to meet others in the vast sky…

I fail to understand those who say that they will be truly happy when they get this thing or that thing…or reach at the top of the company…etc etc… I feel as if they want to reach the end of the journey without enjoying the route and once there they don’t know how to be happy, because somewhere en route they have forgotten what is being happy..

Life’s lessons

Life is an experience and all experiences teach us something new. Some like those lessons some don’t, i think it depends on how they take it. In a basketball game a team wins, the losers take it a bad experience and the winners of course a life changing experience.

Both the teams still have to work hard , one to do better and other to maintain the same level. I believe being positive and free of guilt or envy would do wonders for the mental and physical health.

Sharing is one thing, I believe, quite important in making us a strong individual, it can be with parents, siblings, spouse or friends. When they are not available we look for a therapist, this is totally my opinion which may not work for all…

Animal World

Last winter we went on a trip to the National park. It’s really amazing to see the animals in their own surroundings, environment they’re comfortable in. I guess it’s true for most of us also, we wouldn’t want to leave our comfort zone. The moment we are picked up and put in a totally different environment, something changes within us, it might be temporary, or permanent, depending upon our mental make up.

I noticed how a small fly would irritate a big animal like an elephant or a rhino, birds would sit on these animals to rest their wings. Big ones cool themselves in muddy waters and then enjoy the sun while grazing , their tails moving all the while. Small animals like deer, black buck, or a blue bull would look at you with such innocent eyes, mute, a question in their glance ,it would melt your heart!!

I feel more at ease with grass grazing animals! Big cats look beautiful only on on the screen, scary if seen next to the safari vehicle.

I am often reminded of a story heard in my childhood. A baby elephant was most of the times tied to a chain. The owner would take him for a walk or bath or whatever, during the day but at night it would be tied to the chain. And even as a grown up, huge elephant, it would sit tied to the chain, comfortable and at peace with himself. Now I understand few phrases more clearly, like not knowing one’s potential, not moving out of the comfort zone, believing what has been drilled into the mind since childhood.

Our Birthright

To crib, complain, whine etc., is our birthright, and a strong human trait. We love to complain about anything and everything. It could be weather, government, boss, neighbour and most of all our loved ones… spouse, kids, parents,in laws…It is amazing how they can speak at length about their favourite punching bag!!

Parents will have a constant complain that their kids don’t listen, have no discipline, and no regard for time at all… hence their life/ career won’t be great!! Exceptions are always there of course!!

I love to call all such people as grumpy and try to tell them to look at positive things in life and people!!

I remember reading about it, a husband and wife,in their old age, decided to write a diary each, about whatever complaints they had with each other.

The wife diligently wrote at length and finally filled up the whole diary, husband had finished long time back. Well they exchanged the dossiers and started reading. The husband found not an iota of space was left unused by his wife…he read some, left some..the wife on the other hand found all pages blank, but for the last one.

It said that he would always be grateful to his wife for looking after his parents, kids and himself. He was thankful for her support through all the ups and downs in life and how she was a pillar of strength during good and not so good days. He thanked God for blessing him with such a loving, kind, caring and beautiful wife.

The basic gender difference hasn’t changed much since homo sapiens came into being. But we have come a long way since then. People are comfortable in each other’s domain, like providing for the family and looking after them at home is no longer defined, male as well as female is happy to be doing whatever suits them, not whatever is designed for them.

Only thing that hasn’t changed an iota in our DNA is to blame others for our misfortunes, crib and complain constantly, it may be sunlight, Mars, government policies, education, friends and family…the list is endless. I believe when this behavioural changes take place in each one of us, we can say we have definitely come a long long way..

Looking forward to that day!! Till then enjoying the company of grumbling people in my life. Mind it , I enjoy their company, don’t mind it at all .

Lots of laughter

The world is shrinking , from huge computers we have come to small mobiles with information on anything under the sun..in plain words, it’s in our palms now..not the world but the computer!!

Everything is reduced to mini size, except,of course, our ego – that’s increasing by manifolds, irrespective of age or experience.

Let’s not deviate from the topic, I find the language shortened to lots of abbreviations, which sometimes is funny too. It took me ages to decode FYI, BTW..my brother, when he was abroad, was quite fond of using these while messaging us.

My cousin would love going to work , he was always in a happy state of mind . His female colleagues would send LOL , and his bubble burst when a younger cousin told him that it means laugh out loud, not lots of love!! We certainly laughed loudly at him!!!

Well, I think it’s good in a way, we can always interpret itas we want to , and be happy about it. During the lockdown period TTSP was used, meaning this too shall pass…ASAP of course we all are aware.. another favourite of mine is JLT, just like that, this i use tell my loved ones that there’s no urgency to return my call,it can be done at their convenience.

We all must have devised our own such short forms, sometimes apt, sometimes funny. Do share, we would like to know.

Weighty Issues

These days I am quite fond of saying that I was born old ,wise, and fat! So, I guess I have been battling weight issues from day one!!

But that has not dampened my spirit of having a good time ( for me that is good food)!! And believe you me, I grew up convinced that I am pretty obese, which was not the case till few years back!!

See how psychology plays with your mind, since childhood it was drilled into my mind that was a little too healthy, I thought not otherwise, never even once!

The lesson learnt from this was that all good values must be taught to a child from day one , whatever you want to instil in your child, that is the right time. Of course all the psychologists have been telling the same, but human tendency is to learn by experiment, what say?

Another thing that now I am convinced about is that any change one wants to bring about, whether in self or otherwise, it has to come from within. I mean, the mind has to tell the body it’s high time something is done about extra weight! No amount of taunts, punishments, comments, advice can help until the mind is ready!!

Well, I have trained my mind to ensure that I walk few steps a day.. The journey has started on a slow note, am sure it would end on a high note..With some people it is a matter of starting trouble, and once they start there’s no stopping. Some are like rabbit, good start but tire fast..I believe in being a tortoise, slow and steady wins the race..
